Background

You can add a colored background to a page, or you can add a background image, either a single image or an image “tiled” (repeated) to fill the background of the page. If you are publishing in SVG format, you can add a gradient colored background.

Use the Background Tab of the Page Editor dialog box to set page background properties. For more information, see Page Editor Dialog Box.

Adding a Background Color to a Page
  1. With the page to which you want to add a background color open in the Work Window, double-click on the page to open the Page Editor. For more information, see Page Editor Dialog Box.
  2. Click the Background Tab.
  3. Click and drag the Red, Green, and Blue Fill Color sliders right or left to select a color

    OR

    Enter decimal values in the Red, Green, and Blue fields

    OR

    Click and drag the Color Dropper anywhere on your computer screen to pick up a color. When you have picked up the desired color, release the mouse button.

    The selected color will appear in the Thumbnail View.

  4. If you want to apply the background color to only the current page, proceed to step 5

    OR

    If you want to apply the background color to all pages in the project, click the All Pages button.

  5. Click OK. The dialog box will close, and the selected color will appear on the page background in the Work Window.
Adding a Background Image to a Page
  1. With the page to which you want to add a background image open in the Work Window, double-click on the page to open the Page Editor. For more information, see Page Editor Dialog Box.
  2. Click the Background Tab.
  3. If you want to add only a single image to the page background, click the Image button

    OR

    If you want to add an image to be tiled across your page background, click the Tile button

    The Open dialog box will open.

  4. Browse for the image on your system that you want to add as a background image.
  5. When the name of the image appears in the File name field, click the Open button.

    The Open dialog box will close, and the selected image will appear in the Thumbnail View.

  6. If you are adding only a single image to the page background, proceed to step 8

    OR

    If you are adding a tiled image to the page background, and you want to fill the entire page background with tiled images, leave both the X and Y checkboxes checked

    OR

    If you are adding a tiled image to the page background, and you want the tiled images to appear in one column along the far left of the page background, click to deselect (uncheckmark) the X checkbox

    OR

    If you are adding a tiled image to the page background, and you want the tiled images to appear in one row along the top of the page background, click to deselect (uncheckmark) the Y checkbox

  7. If you want to apply the background image to only the current page, proceed to step 8

    OR

    If you want to apply the background image to all pages in the project, click the All Pages button.

  8. Click OK. The dialog box will close.

    If you selected a single image background, the selected image will appear in the upper left corner of the page. If you selected a tiled image background, the image will appear tiled to fill the page background.

Adding a Gradient Background Color to a Page

You may add a gradient background color only if you are publishing in SVG format and will not appear in the work window. They only appear in the published SVG page.

  1. With the page to which you want to add a gradient background open in the Work Window, double-click on the page to open the Page Editor. For more information, see Page Editor Dialog Box.
  2. Click the Background Tab.
  3. Click and drag the Red, Green, and Blue Fill Color sliders right or left to select a base color for the gradient pattern

    OR

    Enter values in the Red, Green, and Blue fields

    OR

    Click and drag the Color Dropper anywhere on your computer screen to pick up a base color for the gradient pattern. When you have picked up the desired color, release the mouse button.

  4. If you want to apply a radial gradient pattern, click the Radial button

    OR

    If you want to apply a cylindrical gradient pattern, click the Cylinder button

    OR

    If you want to apply a linear gradient pattern, click the Linear button.

  5. Click and drag the Red, Green, and Blue Fill Color sliders right or left to select a complementary color for the gradient pattern

    OR

    Enter values in the Red, Green, and Blue fields

    OR

    Click and drag the Color Dropper anywhere on your computer screen to pick up a complementary color for the gradient pattern. When you have picked up the desired color, release the mouse button.

    The selected gradient colors and pattern will appear in the Thumbnail View.

  6. If you want to apply the gradient background to only the current page, proceed to step 7

    OR

    If you want to apply the gradient background to all pages in the project, click the All Pages button.

  7. Click OK. The dialog box will close, and the selected gradient pattern will appear on the page background in the Work Window.
