on the Text Editor toolbar.The Link Editor dialog box allows you apply text (or “inline”) hyperlinks to words you have selected in the Text Editor and to manage your Link Library. (For more information, see Text Editor Dialog Box (Text Edit Mode).)
To open the Link Editor dialog box, with
the Text Editor dialog box displayed, select InsertInsert Link
(URL), or press the CTRL+I keyboard shortcut. Or, click the
Link Editor button: on the Text Editor toolbar.
The Link Editor dialog box is not available with the Text Editor in Code Edit or Title Edit Mode.
Add inline (text) hyperlinks using the Link Editor dialog box.
Be careful of conflicts between inline hyperlinks (assigned to text using the Link Editor dialog box) and text object hyperlinks (assigned using the Link Tab on the Quick Properties Editor dialog box or the Object Editor dialog box). If you update a hyperlink and clicking the hyperlink takes you to the old target and not the new one, check to make sure inline and object hyperlinks are not conflicting.
Options on the Link Editor dialog box include the following:

| Select URL | Select from the drop-down menu the type of hyperlink you
want to apply to the selected object. Choose from among internal project
page ([page]), Internet (http://), email (mailto:), external file ([ file
]),FTP, or Telnet link types (protocols).
Or, you may leave the Link Type menu blank if the protocol is already in the URL text. This is useful when you want to use a protocol that is not in the Link type list (e.g., https://www.test.com or JavaScript:alert (’hey there’). You may also leave the Link Type menu blank if the URL is a partial URL (e.g., ../somefile.html).This is useful if you know that the file will exist in some location relative to the web page. | Link Type | Select from the drop-down menu the type of hyperlink you want to apply to the selected object. Choose from among (-blank-), internal project page (-page-), Internet (http://), email (mailto:), FTP, or Telnet hyperlinks. |
| Text link to click on | If you have already selected text in the Text Editor to make into a hyperlink, displays the selected text. Or, if you have not selected text, enter the text that will become hyperlinked when you have completed the operation. The hyperlinked text will be inserted where you had placed the cursor before opening the Link Editor dialog box. |
| Assign a title | Enter a descriptive title or information about the link to be displayed when the user hovers the mouse over the link without clicking it. Optional. |
| Assign a bookmark name | Optional, unless you are creating a bookmark. Enter a unique name for the bookmark. For more information, see Link Manager Dialog Box. |
| Open this link in a new Window | Click to checkmark to open the hyperlink target in a new browser window when the user clicks the hyperlink, instead of opening the hyperlink target in the current browser window. Adding this name will allow you to later create a link to the particular place on the page that this named word occupies. |
| Add New URLs to the URL List | Click to checkmark to automatically add any hyperlink addresses you enter in the Select URL field to the Link Manager. For more information, see Link Manager Dialog Box. |
| Do Not Underline Link | Click to checkmark to remove the underline from hyperlinked text. |
| Assign Unique Color | Click to checkmark and then click the Color button to open the Color dialog box, allowing you to select an alternate color to the default medium blue color assigned to hyperlinked text. |
| Manager | Click to open the Link Manager dialog box, allowing you to manage the hyperlinks list. For more information, see Link Manager Dialog Box. |
| Find File | Click to display the Open dialog box, where you can browse
your system for an external file to be linked to the selected object.
After you have located the desired file and clicked the Open button, the
file path will appear in the Select or enter the URL to link to: field
and the Link Type dropdown list will display the [ file ] option. When
the page or project is previewed or published, clicking the linked object
will open the external file (and its associated plug-in program, if necessary
and if installed) in a new browser window or allow the user to either
run or save the file.
The external file will be gathered and published together with the web project if the “Gather all files” option is enabled on the Pages tab of the Publisher dialog box. (For more information, see Publisher Dialog Box.) |
| Test | Click to launch the URL in its default application. To test remote links, i.e., Internet, email, ftp, or Telnet, you must have an active connection to the Internet. To test internal page links, complete the hyperlink operation and then test the hyperlink on the Preview Page. |
| OK | Click to accept the current settings and exit the dialog box. |
| Cancel | Click to cancel the operation and close the dialog box. |
| Help | Click to open a context-sensitive help topic. |
